SESA is in the process of establishing systems engineering Working Group for the engineers, scientists, project managers and business professionals working in defence sector within the ACT – The SESA ACT Defence Working Group.

Aman Singh is taking a lead on organising and conducting regular weekly systems engineering workshops for the SESA ACT Defence Working Group.

Aim

Aim of the SESA ACT Defence Working Group is to conduct weekly/fortnightly workshops (1hr per workshop) to discuss and appreciate the following aspects of systems engineering discipline as applied within ACT defence sector.

Workshops 1-5 will cover the following topics.

How to build engineering and project teams.

1. Understanding and analysing context.
2. Discussion on using 4-D assessments and representative results from NASA.
3. How to assess your teams context.
4. Methods to shift the context.

Workshops 5-10 will cover the following topics.

How to build and manage systems.

1. Discussion on the use of term “Systems Engineering” in operating disciplines such as Aerospace/Rail/IT and fundamental differences and similarities.
2. System definition in environment context.
3. Understanding system context.
4. Major technical, commercial and organisational complexities and challenges faced by projects in defence sector.
5. How to apply principles of systems thinking to solve complex and challenging systems and organisational problems
6. Importance of integrating Systems Engineering and Project Management activities on projects.

Outcomes

Identifying opportunities of improvement by applying principles of “Context Shifting” and “Systems Thinking” in the respective operating disciplines.
