SUMMARY:Solving Green Hydrogen delivery with Systems Engineering
DESCRIPTION:Hydrogen is the key to unlocking accelerated energy transition switching for heavy industry\, trucking\, maritime\, rail and aviation\, but storage is hard\, and it’s holding the entire hydrogen economy back. A Green Hydrogen Start-up is solving storage\, with their breakthrough advanced nanoporous materials at the centre\, and enabling sustainable end-to-end ecosystems\, delivering efficient\, safe and low-cost hydrogen\, to precipitate a rapidly growing\, potentially multi-trillion-dollar market by 2050. Systems Engineering practices have been implemented to ensure the most efficient pathway to achieve a safe and reliable product in the start-up environment. This talk will cover: \n\nThe hydrogen supply chain ecosystem and the mission;\nThe rationale for embedding systems engineering in a technology start-up environment;\nThe implementation approach and the tools used; and\nLessons learnt on the journey so far. The talk will be followed by an opportunity for networking.\n\nLearning outcomes\nIn this presentation you will gain: \n\nan understanding the good practice on system engineering in a start up and technology development environment.\nan understanding to the systems engineering and environment communities of the hydrogen supply chain and challenges.\nan insight to career options in the start up environment for systems and sustainability engineers.\n\nSpeaker\nChristopher Miller\n\nHead of Systems Engineering\, Rux Energy\n\n\n \nChris acquired a BE in Materials Engineering in 1998 and a Master of Engineering (by research) at Deakin University in 2002 on a postgraduate scholarship. He also has a postgraduate diploma in Project Management. \nHis career started in the automotive industry and was followed by a long stint at Cochlear\, operating a variety of roles in implants development and product launch. In 2016-19 he joined numerous Aussies scaling Tesla in California and subsequently worked for various local cleantech startups\, where he establishes Systems Engineering as a core competency for successful technology and product development. \nChris resides in Wollongong\, NSW\, where he raises his small family and pursues a longstanding interest in recreational aviation. \n\nProgram\nIn person \n\n5.00 PM AEST: Registration opens\n5.30 PM AEST: Webinar starts\n6.20 PM AEST: Q&A starts\n6.50 PM AEST: Q&A and webinar concludes\n6.50 PM AEST: Networking begins\n7.50 PM AEST: Guests depart\n\nOnline \n\n5.30 PM AEST: Webinar starts\n6.20 PM AEST: Q&A starts\n6.50 PM AEST: Q&A and webinar concludes\n\nDetails\nTime/Date: 5.30 pm — 6.30 pm AEST\, 04 June 2025 \nEvent type: Hybrid \nLocation: Engineers Australia Sydney Office Mezzanine Floor 44 Market Street \, Sydney New South Wales\, 2000 \nCost: \nFree for SESA members\, EA members and students (Note: A discount will be applied at checkout for SESA members\, making the event free) \n$30 for non-members. \nRegister here: https://www.engineersaustralia.org.au/event/2022/05/solving-green-hydrogen-delivery-systems-engineering-0a8fb301

SUMMARY:Discussion: Testing and Commissioning of Large Complex Infrastructure Projects
DESCRIPTION:SESA’s Victorian Branch welcomes you to an interactive discussion examining whether critical lessons from major projects like Crossrail\, the BoM Supercomputer\, and the Woomera Range Complex have been truly absorbed by the industry. It highlights recurring challenges in systems integration\, testing\, and stakeholder engagement\, and underscores the importance of realism in scheduling\, operator involvement\, and robust safety and commissioning practices. \nSESA members nationwide are invited to attend and encouraged to bring their own tales of tribulations\, as well as stories of success to be shared and discussed in a relaxed and informal session. Or simply bring an inquisitive mindset ready to dissect the anecdotes provided by the speakers! \n\nHave you seen lessons learnt being used effectively in your workplace? What were the challenges?\nHave lessons learnt from any case studies helped your workplace to manage risks they otherwise wouldn’t?\n\nFacilitator:\nTom Castor \nChair – Systems Engineering Society of Australia (SESA) Victoria Branch Committee \nRegional Director – Victoria\, ARCH Artifex
