SUMMARY:Smart Cities Panel
DESCRIPTION:Hear from some of the recognized leaders to share their expertise and visions on the topic of Smart Cities. We have panellists from the academic (Prof. Pascal Perez from University of Wollongong)\, the private sector (Jennifer Russell from Garver USA\, Joanne Carmichael from Arup\, Richard Loader from UGL) and one of the largest smart cities network (Adam Beck from Smart Cities Council) to cover the following: \n\nContext of what Smart Cities is\nApplication of the technologies\nLessons learnt from the current implementation\nHow systems engineering principles are being used for Smart Cities from an international perspective.\n\nThis will be kicked start with a networking session (17:00-18:00) prior to the introduction of speakers starting @18:00. Expected to conclude by 19:30. \nAll  times given in AEST (Melbourne\, Sydney\, Canberra)\, please adjust for your local time zone. \nREGISTER HERE\nSpeakers\nProfessor Pascal Perez \n \nProf Perez is the Director of the SMART Infrastructure Facility at the University of Wollongong\, overseeing research in infrastructure-related fields such as water and energy efficiency\, future transport and mobility\, smart cities and communities\, as well as infrastructure system engineering and logistics. He is a specialist of integrative infrastructure modelling and socio-technological transitions. Pascal is a Fellow of the Modelling and Simulation Society of Australia and New Zealand (MSSANZ) and a Fellow of the Royal Society of New South Wales. He is a member of the Executive Council of IOT Alliance Australia (IOTAA)\, and a member of the International Advisory Board of UK’s Collaboratorium for Research on Infrastructure and Cities (UKCRIC). Prof Perez also contributes to Standards Australia’s Technical Committee IT-268 (smart cities and communities). \nMarcel van de Ven \n \nMarcel van de Ven graduated with a Master of Science (MSc) in Mechanical Engineering of the Technical University of Eindhoven in 1993. He had a career at Movares in railway infrastructure and developed his skills in Systems Engineering when he was a senior engineering consultant for the Dutch railway Betuweroute.\nIn 2011\, he started his Systems Engineering career in civil systems at Croon Elektrotechniek in tunneling systems and complex buildings. He was a systems architect for the refurbishment of the tunnels in the Dutch A15 highway and de Westerscheldetunnel. In 2016\, he became responsible for implementing Systems Engineering in the department Buildings Technology at Heijmans. \nRichard Loader \n \nRichard has 22 years’ experience specialising in the development and implementation of transport management technologies in the United Kingdom and Australia. Maintaining an understanding of the continuously evolving technologies available\, Richard is focused on innovating\, improving and incorporating new ideas and methods in a safe and practical way. \nAdam Becker \n \nAdam is an urbanist who has worked for private sector consultancies and leading global non-government organisations to advance sustainable community outcomes for over 25 years. \nAs Executive Director with the Smart Cities Council\, he works with the world’s longest running smart cities organisation focussed on catalysing action and investment in technology and data to accelerate liveability\, workability and sustainability. \nAdam is Program Lead for many of the SCC’s core initiatives\, such as the Centre for Data Leadership\, Future of Place and Code13 (An SDG Action Lab). Adam also curates the Australia New Zealand Digital Twin Hub and the global Smart Cities Academy. \nPrior to this Adam was Director of Innovation at EcoDistricts\, where developed a collaborative governance model for urban regeneration across North America and beyond. \nAdam was also Executive Director at the Green Building Council of Australia where is facilitated the creation of the Green Star Communities certification system for sustainable urban development. \nBefore entering the mission-driven sector\, Adam spent 15 years with global consulting firms\, including GHD and almost a decade with Arup. \nAdam spent time in academia as a lecturer and studio lead in social impact assessment and community engagement at the University of Queensland.
